The
Humane Society of Nelson County
is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation which was formed in 1994.
This organization funds and oversees the Adoptions Program at the
Shelter, provides spay/neuter for shelter animals and low-cost spay/neuter
surgeries for low income pet owners, offers behavioral modification
and training information to help keep pets in their homes,offers humane
education materials and visits to local schools, and pet therapy visits

Nelson County
Animal Control and Protection is an agency of county government
that serves our community by enforcing our local ordinance, responding
to animal-related complaints, protecting the public from animals running
at large, and picking up stray/lost companion animals, and caring
for those animals during their mandatory holding period at the Animal
Shelter. Chief Animal Control Officer ("Dog Warden"), since
